C310 DC contactors are designed for use in electric vehicles
Achieving the goals set for climate and environmental protection is possible only with the active cooperation of the road transport industry. The principle of “smart cities” of the future is as follows: less emissions – higher quality of life.
An important component of this process is the growing trend of using electric drives in cars of all classes. This new category of vehicles uses high power battery systems up to 1000 VDC. current.
The connection between the components that are powered by the battery is carried out by the so-called BBB (Battery Disconnect Unit). At the same time, it performs an important protective function: in case of danger, it disconnects the high-voltage battery and the high-voltage network, together with all the electrical components of the vehicle.
Schaltbau compact contactors of the C310 series are suitable for this application:
as a main contactor, they can be used on both the positive and negative lines of the traction battery. In the event of a thermal overload or short circuit, the contactors provide reliable galvanic separation between the electrical transmission and the battery.
Why C310 series contactors are the best choice?
To obtain the power of an electric vehicle comparable to internal combustion engines, high voltage direct currents are indispensable. And when they open, they create a switching arc, due to which the contact surfaces wear out a lot. The main goal of contactor manufacturers is to minimize the duration of this switching arc. The high voltage contactor C310 from Schaltbau fulfills these requirements and thanks to the air gap concept this technology becomes safe and controllable. In contrast to the solutions on the market, the encapsulated gas-filled switching chamber can be dispensed with. As a result, shifts in the load limit range are clearly better controlled.
Other important features for this application:
Full bidirectionality.
Can be used for power classes from 150 to 1000 A.
High maximum permissible short-term current up to 3000 amperes.
Estimated insulation voltage up to 1500 V.
High steady state thermal currents – high breaking current capacity.
